Donald Trump Is a Crypto Whale; New Filings Show $2.8M In Crypto Wallet
Former President Donald Trump has been revealed to possess over $2.8 million in cryptocurrency within an Ethereum wallet, according to financial disclosure documents submitted to the Office of Government Ethics.
The crypto skeptic was previously known to hold around $500,000 in an Ethereum wallet, according to filings.
The updated information was unearthed and shared on Twitter by the ethics watchdog Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW).
Additionally, according to the filings, Trump made about $4.9 million in licensing fees from a collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) introduced by his campaign as part of his candidature for the president in 2024 after losing to Joe Biden in 2020.
The value of these NFTs fluctuated, at first rising and then falling after the release of a second batch of tokens.
Trump’s skepticism about cryptocurrencies is still present despite his sizable crypto ownership.
He has called cryptocurrencies a “scam” and a “very dangerous thing,” stating that he prefers the US dollar.
This goes against the views of some of his fellow Republicans who favor crypto, such as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, as well as legislative initiatives that have received backing from the cryptocurrency sector.
