Indian Startup Registration: Get your business registered in 5 simple steps
India is now the hub of ‘Start-up’ ecosystem in the world, ranking third with 90,000 ‘Start-Ups’ and 107 unicorn companies worth $30 billion.
The Indian government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has begun and promoted the Startup India Initiative to help aspiring entrepreneurs.
The government has simplified the startup registration process in India.
Young entrepreneurs only need to follow a five-step procedure to get their startups registered. Take a look at these steps below
1) Incorporate your business: The company must be incorporated as a Limited Liability Partnership, a Private Limited Company, or a partnership firm.
One needs to submit an application form for receiving a certificate of incorporation.
Submit the application form to the Companies or Registrar of Firms along with the necessary paperwork and fees.
2) Register with Startup India: Now, the company needs to get registered on the Startup India website.
You just need to visit the official website — startupindia.gov.in — and click on the register option. Fill in the required details and create an account.
Your Startup India profile will be created. After this, you can apply for the acceleration/incubator programs, and competitions, along with other resources, etc.
3) Get DPIIT Recognition: The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) Recognition helps you with intellectual property services and resources, self-certification under labor laws and environmental laws, access to funds, tax exemptions, and more.
For this, you need to log in to your registered account on the Startup India website and click on the ‘DPIIT Recognition for Startups’ button under the ‘Schemes and Policies’ tab.
Now, click on the ‘Click here for submitting your application for recognition as a Startup’ button.
4) Fill Recognition Application Form: The further step is to fill out the Startup Recognition Form.
Enter the required details like full office address, authorized representative details, partner/director details, startup activities, and self-certification. After filling these details, click on ‘accept the terms and conditions’ and submit the form.
5) Wait for registration certificate: Now you need to wait for the details to get verified. After the verification process is completed, you will receive an email with the registration certificate.
The documents required for the entire startup registration process include the Incorporation/Registration Certificate of your startup, PAN number, proof of funding, if any, authorization letter of the authorized representative of the company, LLP or partnership firm, proof of concept like pitch deck/website link/video, patent and trademark details, if any, and the list of awards or certificates of recognition, if any.
